Presentation of TYPO3

TYPO3 is a free and open source enterprise level content management system. It is written in PHP. It has become a wide spread content management systems (CMS) on the web and in intranets. It is more popular in Europe, probably, because is created initially by Kasper Skaarhoj from Denmark (http://typo3.org/community/people/kaspers-korner/) and now developed by programmers from Germany. In North America, there are 2 major communities of TYPO3 developers, one in Montreal and one in Dallas.

There are a lot of rumours out there about the learning curve of TYPO3, and are true. After more than 3 months I’m able to use TYPO3 at the real value of the system, making a complex website in few days or a simple one in hours.

I won’t argue about the place which TYPO3 should be besides other CMS, every CMS have “troopers” but I would like to try to open the eyes of developers about this CMS. It is worth it. For some web project, using TYPO3 can be assimilate with carrying 2 brick with a truck, but for enterprise projects it is the most fit solutions.

What I found difficult in learning process of TYPO3 is the lack of handling errors.
TYPO3 has two operating modes: a frontend, which presents a TYPO3 based website to its users, and a backend, used by authors and site administrators to manage content for the website. The backend is used with an ordinary web browser, so there is no special software needed to work on a TYPO3-based website.

This link(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TYPO3) is for those who are interested in TYPO3 but they are new to the system.

On the internet you could find a bunch of CMS comparison website where you can make your research to check if one CMS or another is suits your needs. I know, choosing the perfect CMS for you job is time consuming and usually, you don’t have enough time. You should spend enough time studying TYPO3 until you are sure that isn’t the best soutions.
